I look out the window and I see the lights and the skyline and the people on the street rushing around looking for action, love, and the world’s greatest cookie, and my heart does a little dance.
I have friends who eat egg-white omelettes. Every time I’m forced to watch them eat egg-white omelettes, I feel bad for them.
She entered the hospital to die, answered no questions, and went off without having explained any of it. But if action is character, and she believed that it is, perhaps we have the answer after all. What doesn’t matter is whether we got to say good-bye or not. What does matter is that she was here for those she loved and those who loved her, and that now, while we were napping, she has gone.
I put together this playlist of some of the best songs from Nora Ephron movies, from the underseen Cookie to Andie MacDowell’s song from Michael to the most obvious selections from You’ve Got Mail. Enjoy.
Movies Nora Ephron has written, from best to worst, minus “This is My Life” and “Cookie” because I haven’t seen them. Why? Because it’s Sunday. Why the hell not.
- You’ve Got Mail
- When Harry Met Sally
- Sleepless in Seattle
- My Blue Heaven
- Julie & Julia
- Hanging Up
- Mixed Nuts
Sometimes I stay up half an hour later than I intended because there are so many hilarious You’ve Got Mail tribute videos to watch on YouTube, then I show up to work tired for the most depressing of reasons and doodle my feelings using a famous moment from a movie that I’m ashamed to admit I’ve never seen.
Ugh. Ephron. How many lives have you ruined/improved?
