Like usual, I exited the train at 42nd Street.

One escalator was working, and the other was still apologizing for the inconvenience - gutted entirely, it hadn’t even become stairs. Being a civilized human, I walked up the left side and passed through the spinning grates onto the sidewalks of Broadway. All of this was the same old song, but while proceeding north I realized that something was different. Happier. Brighter. There was an electricity in the air, not just the normal stench of horse shit. I immediately felt like one of those people who calls in to late-night AM radio shows talking about how they can “see auras” and “feel energies.” What was causing this overwhelming charge to circulate through my body? An invisible force turned my head to the right, and I focused on the Good Morning America set across the street.
