There’s a clip of a little boy being held by his mother while calmly describing the school shooting he lived through. He says he saw the bullets. He says his teacher pulled him inside the room. He says the noises sounded like someone was “kicking the door.” He says all of this without crying or shaking or discussing how scared he was. Maybe because he wasn’t! Maybe because his teacher made him feel safe! And maybe, in addition to a “national discussion” (whatever that means) about gun control, we throw in a conversation or two about how teachers are underpaid and undervalued and overworked and overlooked.

Or maybe we all just shut up for a while.
