So as I discussed, the Louvin Brothers are my current obsession. I first heard of them years ago when a friend showed me the “Satan is Real” album art and then played selected tracks from it. He said something along the lines of, “They were brilliant guys. It’s just too bad they were so despicable.” I soon forgot about them, but after starting this book over the weekend (written by Charlie Louvin - now deceased), my interest has spiked.
This is a song of theirs called “Knoxville Girl” - it’s about a murder and contains lyrics like:
She never spoke another word, I only beat her more,
Until the ground around me within her blood did flow.
