This wonderful oral history of the golden era of MTV is out today, and I suggest you buy it. Pitchfork has an excerpt on its front page today. If you’re around tonight, the authors are doing a little forum/Q&A thing at the Tribeca Barnes & Noble at 7pm with me, DMC and Ed Lover, along with whichever of the early execs decides to drop in. It should be interesting, but I’ll be honest: it will definitely be less sexy and drugsy than much of the goings-on in the book.
Anyway. Get your copy here and say goodbye to your weekend.

Bex and I sat in the front row of this panel tonight. The two of us talked about work, pandas, San Diego, CatchPhrase, iPhone vibrate buttons, AND we even listened to the discussion!
My favorite story of the night came from Ed Lover who, when asked whether he regretted not taking “a lot of money” from Vanilla Ice to show his videos on Yo! MTV Raps, said, “No, I don’t regret it. We all knew Vanilla Ice was whack from day one.”
Oh! And also Dave’s story about Puff Daddy pulling him into a closet to watch Dream perform.
And Ed’s story about Flavor Flav dropping a bag of crack on stage.
I’m very excited to read the book, mainly because it’s the first thing I’ve bought at a Fox Books Barnes & Noble since 2008.
